The Ilustre Municipalidad de Rio Verde (Illustrious Municipality of Rio Verde), sometimes referred to as Villa Ponsomby, is a Chilean commune in Magallanes Province, Chile.
In Chile, a commune is the smallest administrative subivision which may contain cities, towns, villages, hamlets, and rural areas.
It's population in 2002 was said to be 358 inhabitants (295 men and 63 women).
In March of 2024 we visited Rio Verde during a day trip to the Estancia Fitz Roy.
Rio Verde is a neatly kept small village with several white painted clapboard buildings including a cafe and gift shop.
It sits on the Fitz Roy Channel over which the Bahia Azul Barge serves as a local ferry.
